Hello all, so on the 13 March 2021 I posted this This year does get better In the sixth photo you will see a Kayen Heater Lamp that isn't complete here is that photo, notice that sitting in front of the heater there is the top half of the burner head and missing the bottom parts. By the way that burner didn't actually come with the heater, that's just where I put it for the photo, it was from a different shop and was marked as a tool, but I knew what is was so for $5 bucks I thought why not you never know it could come in handy in some way, maybe I might get a burner that's got damage who knows? Now lets fast forward to the 18 June 2022 and over 300km away from where I got the other heater. We were on one of our over night trips and I found this Kayen Heater Lamp, looked at it and thought to myself hay I have the rest of the burner at home, no way that's amazing I thought that I would never in a million years find the other parts for that burner. So here is a picture of what I got this time and I would say because it was missing the top part of the burner was the reason why the heater was so cheap. So what do you think was the first thing I did when I got home. Can you believe my luck it maybe a small thing to others but for me I'm just so amazed. Now here is the photo of my now completed Kayen burner head. Now I just need the wire guard, they seem to be the hardest part to find on Heater lamps, but who knows what instore.
I haven’t looked at other Aussie lamp bases yet, but I don’t recall seeing one with the bottom lip turned outwards? A bit like the pork pie rim? edit : just had a scroll through the gallery, couldn’t see another but perhaps I wasn’t looking in the right place ??
Your heading asks what is the chance? I would say fat chance or slim chance; either would be right. The odds were against you and yes it is weird how sometimes this happens. I think @JEFF JOHNSON is probably right in that if you hang onto a few parts here and there it often works out. I've cobbled things together at times from old parts and had luck. The other day the valve guide at the bottom of a pump was cactus and yep I had kept just that part in aluminium for some time. Good when it works out.
That's a good point you make there mate, I never really noticed that, after you mentioned it I had a closer look at the fount you are right, it is a different fount to all my other Kayen lamps. I also have looked in the reference gallery and couldn't see one the same, have @Anthony or @Tony Press seen a Kayen fount like this one? @Sedgman Yes its wonderful when a thing like this happens, just goes to show you never know what might come in handy.
@Buggerlugs Sorry to be a pain, but from underneath looking at the rim, too, if possible, please. Cheers Tony
Thanks, @Buggerlugs! Well… I’ve not seen a Kayen tank with that lip on the rim - I ratted through the shed as well. Nothing of that ilk. Cheers Tony
Great photos and I love that Nettlefolds label/decal I had thought it was rolled outwards completely but you have shown what it actually looks like
It’s neither good nor bad, but it is unique (in so far as no other Kayen tank I’ve seen is like that), and it’s interesting. Cheers Tony
Well Found That is a very interesting find I would have said there were two (Kayen resevoirs,) K type & N type (or should it be font)
