Lucked into a pair of these recently. Got one cleaned up and going. Here it's photoed with a pair of Coleman 318's. Thanks for looking!
Wow now that's beautiful. Are they hard to come by in America.? What time period is it from 1920's or later?
Thank you all for the kind comments. @Buggerlugs between my two and @Mackburner 's example here in the reference, they are the only 3 402's I've seen. Economy stuff just doesn't pop up and I'm only a couple hours from Kansas City where they were based. The 318 shades, even tho are a century old, are still fairly common as they were used on a few early lamps. I'm sure Neil would have a better date range on the lamp, but I would guess early to mid 20's.
The company was in business from 1898 but these burners are match lighting so likely date from about 1919/1920 and the company dissapears from the Kansas City directory in 1927 so 1920 to 1926 is a reasonable date range for all match lit Economy product. ::Neil::
Toby, awesome score! My dad found one for me in SC. Mine at the time was the second, aside Neil's but at some point been stripped of it's nickel or not ever offered it. So I guess there are 4 known now. I have an unfortunately experienced a broken valve stem on one of the burners so am currently looking for a donor lamp to scavenge the valve stem. Any chance you have one laying around?
@Brownsnek I just seen your post on Facebook as well. Unfortunately I don't have the parts you seek, and I suspect they won't be an easy find. Hopefully a standard single burner lamp will have a suitable valve as I only know of 4 of those 402's counting yours now.
