I have built up a small collection of lanterns over the past couple of years but haven’t been particularly drawn to the table lamps. However when this popped up on FBMP for £20, I couldn’t resist. Looking at the reference gallery I think this is a TL106? There are no markings on it just a small piece of an old Tilley sticker and some evidence of gold paint on the base but it has been stripped by the previous owner. There is no date stamp. It all looks fairly original but I have little knowledge of these. Some of the examples in the gallery had the fly screen plates above the burner and at the base of the globe. Were they standard issue or an optional accessory? Will start with a general clean up and service and see how it looks before possibly reinstating the paint.
That is an early 1950's TL 106 and it should restore well enough, the insect guards were mainly for export lamps.
Thanks @JEFF JOHNSON - It’s something a bit different to work on. Would it have come with a 606 or 169 vapouriser as standard?
Hello Scott, it was marketed with the 606 vapouriser, if the lamp is going to be used then in my opinion, it's better to fit a 169 vapouriser.
As far as I know Scott this model came with the 606, but it looks just as good with the 169. Regards Ian.
It’s nice to have the option I reckon. I think if I used it then it would be either sat on the end of the workbench or sat on the patio table in the garden, so the extra couple of inches of clearance is going to be useful to keep the burner up out of the way.
Nice find I believe you got a real bargain mate, they are easy to work on, like all Tilley lamps are. Enjoy.
@Scott D It may been sold or marketed with a glass shade like this: Or, a traditional lamp shade as seen in this brochure: https://classicpressurelamps.com/threads/1950-54-tilley.167/ Cheers Tony
