I acquired this thermos 8319, it would not hold pressure. I noticed that it had a coleman style pump with no stem. It has an original thermos check valve that after cleaning works pretty well but air escapes since there is no stem in the pump shaft to close it completely. I'd like to find a replacement pump with threaded stem built in to it, so I can run this lantern. I'm told a kamplite inverted lantern is very similar and wonder if I can't find a thermos brand, if the kamplite pump will work. Amy advice or assistance in finding a fix is much appreciated! I'm not sure but I think all A.G.M., KampLite and Thermos valves are the same. Here are images of the valve from my KampLite inverted lantern. I took the leather off to better show the end of the pump shaft which as you can see is flattened like a screwdriver blade. That blade fits the slot in the check valve so it can be screwed in (closed) or 4 1/4 turns counter clockwise, open It's machined so that it won't come out completely.
Thanks Henry, that is interesting. I have had that check valve out 3 times now to clean it. It looks similar but I don't remember it looking like that inside? I will take it out and look again.
Perhaps "burred over" would be a more accurate description and I dare say that the centre piece would come out if you got rough enough with it. I wonder if that's what a previous owner has done. A picture might help.
Ah, your valve is a little different to the one in my Kamplite. It seems the centre piece on your Thermos valve is not captive and has been screwed completely out and presumably lost. It's 01:20 here in the U.K. and time for bed, I'll check some other AGM stuff in the morning to make sure valves from other models are compatible.
I think you'll need the valve as well. Here's what your valve should look like The thread on the insert is 5/16 x 27t.p.i. - at least I think it is, it's somewhere between 26 and 28. Although the thread count on this is the same, the diameter is only 1/4 inch.
