It's Canadian and date stamped 8 37 It was badly coked up and I had to strip it down. I didn't recognise the significance of the lamp when I purchased it a couple of years ago. But the more I learn the more I'm appreciating it. It was the recent posting of one by Toby Garner followed by Tony Press that encouraged me to get this one down and have another look. It did have a rather ugly protrusion on one side where a Schrader valve had been installed (why it's been on the shelf so long). I removed it and soldered in a brass bolt sealing the hole. It can see seen in the photos as a round lump on the shoulder of the tank. Most of the paintwork is original, metallic olive green over sprayed with brown (also metallic?). The fuel cap and pump knob / cap were originally painted with the brown so when I painted the repair I also repainted the fuel cap and pump knob / cap (metallic brown). As found
Fine work getting that lamp going. And an excellent piece of cosmetic surgery on the protuberance! The "Coleman Book" refers to that colour, I think, as "brushed coppertone". A good Tasmanian beer, too. I'll post more photos of my completed 118B soon. Cheers Tony
Nice work. I had an Evening Star with a similar problem and solved in similar fashion; darn annoying though.
