Picked this one up recently from one photo assuming it was a Coleman AA. Once I received it I knew it was something else. Valve and burner setup resembles many Gloria items of the era, so Neil has placed this one in the Gloria section of the PLC under the model AP. If anyone has one with similar features I'd like to hear about it. Thanks for looking!
Yea it could be a Knight Light I guess. Both Knight and Gloria used the Turban fount and that burner in various models and both companies had factories capable of making “In house” products but so very often the lamps are near identical and I still don’t know the exact relationship they had. I listed this as a Gloria simply because it has that “Gloria” burner and no other markings although I didn’t look at the casting mark which perhaps I should. That turban fount was sold on lamps catalogued or advertised by Coleman, Gloria, Knight Light, Incandescent Light & Supply, Thomas, Acorn Brass, Sunshine Safety, Swaine, Guy Hunter and MacLaren that I know of and possibly more. I don’t think Coleman made it because it isn’t in their shipping records and I don’t think Coleman had a spinning lathe in 1912 when the turban first appears. Gloria, Knight and Acorn may have had the capability but I suspect an as yet unidentified brass works made and sold the turban to all comers. The burner cross head casting appears on both Knight and Gloria lamps and could have been made by either company so as a general rule when there is not manufacturers mark I tend to assume any lamp fitted with it is a Gloria. Maybe that’s a rather lazy assumption but I have to list it somewhere and since I show the burner as a Gloria in the PLC it fits in that list easier than anywhere else. Neil.
