I have here a very stuck eccentric block from a 220B. I soaked this thing in everything, just in case there was some varnished fuel, but it’s definitely not coming out that way. It may be that’s it’s bent within the middle perhaps and this is causing a jam. So… the only option I think I have is to drill it out? I’m assuming I could drill it from either end without the risk of too much damage? Thanks, Adrian
I'd try turning it slightly. It looks cocked in its bore. I believe the bore was broached with corners to keep the block from turning in the bore. Get it lined up again and it may slide out.
The earliest B's had what we call a long eccentric block... These would not come out the top of the housing. Rather they were removed from the bottom of the eccentric housing... I can't tell from your photo which you have... But the majority use the more common shorter eccentric that is removable from the top... If the eccentric was missed upon a past fettle it's possible that it was bent. This can make it very difficult to remove... I've never had to drill one out, but I have had to drive them out with a hammer and punch... This brings up it's own risks of damage of course.
Glad you got it clear. Gentle persuasion sometimes works and as a bonus, you can adjust the “gentle” to suit the application. Cheers Pete
I had the same problem a while back. The eccentric was bent a bit and the edges were scored with scratches. I bent it back into shape and then used a very fine and small file to make it smooth so it slid in and out of the valve.
