After speaking to a fellow forum member ( Mr Cod ) who had mentioned about a garage in Norfolk who sold paraffin loose. Today I took a run out and stocked up with 20 ltrs of paraffin. I noticed the B&Q prices are now £10.00 for 4ltrs so it is getting quite expensive now. I thought I would mention that these garages are Nationwide and doing paraffin from there pumps current price £1.02 per litre. Harvest Energy. Hope this is of some help. 20220226_104617.jpg 20220226_104617.jpg 20220226_104625.jpg

That pump price, per litre, is very good and a lot cheaper than what I pay in Australia at a large hardware store.

The B&Q price you mentioned, £10.00 per 4 litres, is about the same as what Australians now pay at Bunnings stores in Australia, per 4 litres GBP £10.32, when purchased in a 20 litre drum $95.80 (AUD) so $4.79/litre (GBP £2.58).

I have not seen a kerosene (paraffin) pump now since I was a lad; though a few might still exist. The last one I saw, you pumped it up into a glass bowl by a hand lever which measured it as I remember it.

Interesting Jerry can too as our metal ones, most commonly, though not always, have a lever closed odd shape.

Hello Sedgman. Thank you for your reply. Yes I was pleased with the price today compared with many other outlets. As we are in very uncertain times now I took the opportunity to stock up a bit as I also have paraffin cookers and propane cookers in the event of power outages. The Jerry can was bought recently as in past years I had owned the ones you mention which was the same as the M.O.D. I looked at the reviews of these particular cans and found them to be very good. The insides have been powder coated to prevent rust and the lid is a screw on with a magnetic top so you just unscrew and attach to any part of the can untill you replace it again. There is also an optional screw on filler pipe for either petrol or diesel. Cheers for now. Have a good weekend.

Glad you found the garage steptoe, as long as we keep buying it they will keep stocking it.

Very nice find and great score. To me, that's even better than scoring a lantern.
The last time I've bought my kerosene from the pump station was about 30 years ago. I've not seen any such pumps in operation around town for at least 25 years.
To think of it, the development and availability of lanterns and stoves goes along side that of fuel or energy economy. Without getting the economics right, they won't be used on workhorses.

A slight aside, our last fill of 1199 litres of kero for the Rayburn was priced at 52p per litre.
Just been informed it has just risen to 80p per litre and due to increase again in about two weeks time.

Thank you once again for the heads up on the whereabouts of the fuel station. I went on Google maps and saw it and was able to get the name and phone number of the garage. I gave them a ring to make sure there was plenty in stock to avoid an unnecessary wasted journey. My wife & I made a day of it and tied it in with another job not to far away. I am hoping it will be of some help thanks to you for people who are unaware where it can be purchased loose.

Hopefully it will be a nationwide service. I believe once small retail outlets clear there exsisting stock new prices will be £10 -£12.00 per 4ltrs. I am pleased you both sourced some paraffin at a reasonable price in todays climate.

I stopped by the harvest energy garage in Norwich today and stocked up with paraffin , 9 litres which cost just over 10 pounds so still very reasonably priced.

Well done. Pleased you got some at a good price. When I inquired if they had much paraffin left to save me a wasted journey they said they had 1500 ltrs left so hopefully that will remain the price until restocking again. I have not tried any yet as I have not lit any lamps for a while and I have some left in the 4ltr containers. Please let me know your findings when you use some. Cheers for now.

I've been using the paraffin from harvest energy for quite a few years now and have never had any problems with the quality, my lamps all run very well on it. For many years I worked on the coltishall airbase operating fuel tankers for the aircraft which run on kerosene and I always used the fuel in my hipolito hk500 on many a night fishing trip on the local beaches and it always ran superbly, nice and bright lighting up a large area, sadly the airbase closed in 2006 and i had to start paying for fuel.
    Regards to all

Ian thank you for the review on the paraffin from Harvest Energy. I will get round to trying some shortly. Just getting over a nasty chest infection so I have not been near any lamps for a while. Have a good day regards Nigel.

Nothing near me Wolverhampton, the nearest Harvest Energy forecourts don't sell paraffin.
Best I can get is PrePac paraffin, £799 for 4 Ltrs from a farming suppliers.
Think I'll get some more before it goes up!

Well, with £799, I could get about 825 litres of kerosene (pre-packed in 223 separate cans) in my location.

Very nice find. How about quality? Is it deodorized/indoor rated as the pre-pac "premium" stuff? The nearest one for me is near Edinburgh as I see on the map, would be quite a trip.

Good Morning. Sorry I am unable to comment on the quality as I had a bit of pre-packed paraffin to use up and as of yet have not used it. Mr Cod another forum member had used it with good results. I knew paraffin like most other items were going to increase and with the possibility of power outages etc decided to have some to use in the likely event. Kind regards.

That's still better than the questionable end of season BBQ lighter deals I am getting. Any kind of memberships, etc required?

Just got an email from Aztec, that they don't run a trading counter in St Helens anymore. Anyone nearby could verify that the pump is gone?

    Hi, everyone.
I've found a couple of places confirmed as selling loose paraffin at the pump.
Tate oil. Leeds Road, Otley, West Yorkshire LS21 3BB. £1.99 litre
    Epic Oils, Hayes Business Park,Lye. DY9 8NR. £1.89 litre.
Heating oil is about a pound less.
Premium Paraffin suppliers are becoming seriously rare. Support these ones if you can.

Tate Oil is only 16 miles down the road from me so that's where I get my fuel from. I get kerosene (central heating oil) as it's cheaper. The last lot I got (in January) was £1.099 per litre. Premium Paraffin was £2.099 per litre.

From old receipts, price of kerosene per litre:
    14 May. 2021 £0.599
    11 Nov. 2021 £0.699
    05 Aug. 2022 £1.099
