A 1957 Coleman 249 found in Humberside, complete with a Pyrex globe, homemade case with handwritten lighting instructions, spirit can, funnel and 4 packs of 999 mantles.

No, it doesn’t look threaded. The Canadian 249 I found a year or so ago had a broken valve wheel and to replace it I had to find a glue strong enough to bond the new wheel to the shaft. Would be interesting to know the process at manufacture.
It might have been to heat the wheel up enough to expand the metal slightly then slip it over the shaft, when it cools the fit is extremely tight. I saw this process done on 'Wheeler Dealers' by Edd China, though I can't remember which episode it was.
It has cleaned up nicely. A few blemishes in the nickel where the brass shows through but I brush plated a few coats of nickel onto the bare patches which whilst not perfect, has given a far more uniform finish. Really pleased with how this one came out!

I didn’t get his name but I know he was a mechanic from a village near Hull. He died last year and I picked this up from his Son. The box and the instructions really add to the piece as a whole.
