New to forums but I have a question. Purchased a 1945 smp lantern valve complet, I am kinda questioning the authenticity ofit. The reason is the dial or instruction dial says {after "mantles" burn bright} but all milspec had a single mantle, and the printing and type set are the same as my 1966 coleman lanterns. I am hoping someone can confirm or deny the valves authenticity, or could some one post a picture of the valve" complete" and directions plate ?
1945?? Far as I know SMP>> State Metal Products made no Mil-spec lanterns until 1979-1980 Have to wait until tomorrow to look at any of my mil-specs, but I think the discs an some, or all, do say 'mantles'.
You are correct I mis-spoke it is a coleman 1945 valve complete and yes the question is still aboput the directions plate. Sorry for confusion it was a long sleepless hunt for info. So if anyone can send a picture of a 1945 directional plate pertaining to the 1945 Coleman Lantern valve I would be most gratefull. A close up would be great stock pics do not always help.
The images of early Coleman milspecs here on this site seem to show discs that say "mantles". Here's one that does>> Coleman Mil-Spec 1944 | Classic Pressure Lamps & Heaters
I'm not sure about early Milspecs from the 40s or later SMP-made ones, but this is what it looks like on my US AFM 1967 unit:- The 'S' comes after the 'BURN', not before it. Direction disks are easily swappable, so it won't be surprising to find one that's meant for a double-mantled lantern.
