In case anyone here is wondering why our Shetland members are quiet today - the undersea comminications cables are broken. Damaged cable leaves Shetland cut off from mainland
My broadband connection went down at about 12.05 last night and I checked it at about 11.30 am., today and it was still off, but when I checked it at about 6.30 pm., it was back on, thankfully.
Yes or they may have managed to redirect it via a microwave connection and I concur that two cables being damaged is odd or even suspect.
Not for us in Glenfinnan they aren't! I'm typing this on my laptop tethered via usb to my mobile so I can share the internet access! We've been without broadband for 2 days now - maybe this is the shape of things to come!!!
There's always "Starlink." ...though hopefully he is OK. Still, when I first saw the "Shetlands" name in the title, the first thing I thought about was Shadiversity's fictitional place "The Shadlands." (For those who are into medeival lore, find Shadiversity on YouTube.)
Well @ColinG - needs must -and this is not directed at you personally - It is funny how so many people who didn't really care for computers etc, now know so much about videoconferencing, using 4G data in place of broadband and other such good things. It is putting me out of a job
Hi Colin - I just had a look to see what broadband speeds are availabile in your area. The best seems to be 63Mb/sec. 4G tends to deliver 100Mb/Sec although theoretically it can deliver 300Mb/sec. Much depends on the signal between phone and mast. You can test your connection speed here Broadband Speed Checker.
I just checked and there's something wrong my end so ive called for assistance. Hopefully they can fix it soon.
True. The weird repeater/aerial thingy might have had some water ingress! We're on Locheilnet which uses a satellite system and its usually very reliable. In my location this is all we can get. BT will tell you they can supply super fast broadband but it's a complete lie. 512kb is the best their ancient infrastructure can do, yet they still advertise huge speeds because were close-ish to Fort William.
Recently heard, In Portugal most households have glasfiber to the home. Data rates of up to 1000Mbit/s Hmmm...
