    Hi all,

I present to you this Portuguese lantern MS "Lusalia" 300 cp.
What can I say about this lamp apart from my questions.

It is solid heavy and well built only with brass, a steel ring above the burner and the glass globe.
It is complete in perfect condition has obviously never been used.
We have there all of a "clone" Hasag type 51.
The NRV is of the Optimus/Petromax type.
The vintage style "side" of this lantern appeals to me with this needle control in red Pertinax, which was very used before the WWII war, the preheating cup and identical to that of the Hasag 51.
Jets and needles for Radius N°119 fit perfectly on it.
The hat with an indefinable blue is magnificent.
It carries its original glass manufactured by the great Schott & Gen Mainz house which started its first glass castings in May 1952 in Mainz in western Germany at the time.
I like everything about this lantern except its mysteries.
Lusalia is very feminine for a baptismal name, it is engraved on all the parts of the lantern without exception, it's new for me.
After observation and reflection I think that "Lusalia" is not the name of a manufacturer or a sponsor after having researched Lisbon and around Portugal my little sister who speaks Spanish informs me that more is needed read with the S engraved on the tank "Lus Alias" 51R which translates to "more type" 51R.
We have on the tank a medallion with MS and on the glass an acronym with MS too.
MS must be the manufacturer or sponsor of this lantern.
This is all just my analysis without any basis.
I will try to contact Schott glass.
    Thank you for sharing.

    Best regards,
    Titoo.

This is a very beautiful and rare pressurelamp.:thumbup:
The model was certainly the Hasag 51,but all the parts are different.
I'm also interested in who made them and from when to when ?

    Hello Reinhard,

I will contact schott glass, maybe we can hope for an answer because they made the glass for this lantern.

Have you thought of MS inset on the tank?
Is 52 305 a lighting standard at the time?
I think it dates from the mid 50's.
If it's the 50s it's amazing to see the Pertinax needle control wheel.
The glass is signed Schott u. Gen Mainz and Erich Schott founded the Mainz factory, the first glass casting took place in May 1951.
The site name sign set up at the entrance to the site at the first construction phase indicates Schott & Gen Glaswerk Mainz.

Schott u. or und Mainz and also a registered trademark of Schott glass.
    What's the difference I don't know.

    Regards,
    Titoo.

    Hello Titoo!
Cousin of the "Sunflower 51, Vacuum oil company"lamp? Both were produced in Portugal, it seems to me?

    Lusalia 51r - 52 305

Could the "Lus Alias" be a way of saying Lisbon Alias 51R, i.e. a Lisbon/Portuguese Version of a 51R?
305 may allude to 300 (or 305) candlepower?

Lovely lantern, veri interesting, stunning condition.
    Alec.
