Hello there, first post here for me. I've had this and a few other lanterns for years, I'm a magpie with barns full of junk! I think this is an E41 by the looks of things but there are absolutely zero markings or embossing anywhere to be found. I've no idea if the paint is original, the body is showing through scratches on the base as brass. Would anyone be able to date it and know why it has no markings? Any info much appreciated. I like the glass that came with it, looks like a farmer fettled it with an acetylene torch! I've purchased a pack of seals and washers and will be getting it working and leaving the finish as it is. Several Tillies are getting the same treatment too. One of them is quite interesting having an extra control valve to feed the preheater with paraffin. I've not been able to find any info on the net about it yet.

Ooo you lucky so-and-so, I nice early one too. The glass looks as though it started life as a cafetiere.
As Jeff and Henry have said, a very nice, very early (c 1940), and surprisingly un-mucked-about E 41 (not jealous much...). Sounds like a BR49 or similar, although I seem to remember there's a PL53 variant with a similar preheater; have a look in the reference gallery...
With a pressure gauge filler and a pressure release in the tank shoulder very early so probably 1941 for the MoD and a rare thing indeed. Looks like the original paint finish as well so one to cherish. ::Neil::
There are a few in the galleries and quite a few pieces of literature here for them. Could be a "BR" model of the BR49 family or preheater PL type a-la PL56 etc. Worth subscribing for full access here Alec.
