On the 'A the legs screw into the tank, the 'B, the legs are welded onto a plate, which attaches to the tank with a knurled nut

Oh great thanks! In that case it is a 'B' ...Here is a picture of it. I'm studying conservation of cultural heritage and my project is the proposed restoration of this lamp. If anyone could shed any expertise on its materials/possible treatment/cultural or historical relevance to the lamp I would be very grateful!
Welcome @mimi In order to restore you need to dissasemble, clean and replace seals. Looks like you will need a new "globe" - the glass as well. A seal kit can be bought from Tilley Washer Kit - The Fettlebox Hopefully your vapouriser will be OK. To use it you will need meths (to pre-heat it) along with a pre-heater torch, paraffin as fuel and mantles. Parts are availabale from the base camp Tilley lamp spares One of our members Broadlander made videos on what to do https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=x246a If you can find a copy of the Tilley book by Jim Dick it will show you many types of Tilley and have a history of the company. There is material here on the topic. This website has examples of everything that can go right and wrong with a "fettle" and people here will be happy to help. You should start a new query in the "fettling" section so people can see it - rather than below an old one like this. Part numbers and the right names for bits can be helpful : What do I call this part?: Tilley You can also polish/paint (but do not paint the top as it is enamel not paint) - or you may want to preserve the original finish. It is your call/preference. Some re-paint the font (tank) but leave the original paint intact on the underside. Good luck !

@Mackburner Neil, I seem to recall ages back you advising me the best match spray paint for the original Tilley gold. I believe it was Plasticoat brand but can’t remember the specific gold colour you recommended and I have none in my workshop. Perhaps you can advise please. Regards, Jeremy
