Hi fellas, I have an AGM Jiffykook No15 I’m restoring, I’m not familiar with the AGM set up, I’m after a bit of on-site as to how they work, the picture is of the tank it has a valve on one side, the turning knob screws in and out and has a pricker rod with no needle. This valve attached to an other valve that has a long generator but no jet. Questions. To what purpose is the valve on the tank, dose the rod have to have the pricker wire? What sort of jet would I be looking for, I’ve posted in CPS, but not much to find, The tank is steel. Is this something that need braising or welding to repair. Any advice is very much appreciated. I know it’s a stove but the AGM system is new to me.I have a lantern with very much the same set up
@Darryl Durdin Your posts (1 and 2) over on CCS added to this one are building up my understanding of what you’ve got there. Bear in mind that just two owners of this AGM model exist on CCS and I’ve seen neither on there for a while. You’re in luck. Six years ago Doug, one of those owners, posted instructions for the Jiffycook in the CCS stove reference Library HERE. The burner’s circular on the one illustrated and not square like yours but otherwise it’s the same model. So, the control mounted on the fount is the ‘carburettor valve’ and the rod should have a pricker on it to meter the fuel through a fine jet at the base of the pickup tube - equivalent of a Coleman’s fuel/air metering tube and needle. The generator pricker rod should have a pricker on it (obviously). The jet nipple (gas tip) will have to be fabricated if missing as you say. I’d try one off a Coleman 414 stove for starters, but hey, it’s trial and error. Couple of AGM patents, not specifically for the Jiffycook but relating to the same generator and carburretor elements. Doug’s post and a photo from it on his Jiffycook. Fine looking thing. Final point, in his post of the instruction leaflet Doug said, I can recommend the search facility on CCS and here Darryl. Ten minutes’ work. A while longer to post this reply though! John
@presscall , thank you for coming to the rescue, I’m a lantern fella but not limited to lanterns, this Jiffykook looked like a very cool gpa. I thought I could put my fettle skills to the test.lanterns, heaters, stoves I just like to restore them. My tank has two small holes, I can silver solder and patch the holes. Do you think this will work? Or something more like tig or mig welding? The carburettor valve is in tight with some sort of lock tight , not wanting to damage what I have should I just clean/ clear it as best as I can, I have an ultrasonic bath, or carbi cleaner. @Darryl Durdin Glad to assist Darryl. I don’t blame you taking on that restoration, it’s a cracker of a stove, and pretty rare as you’ll gather with examples thin on the ground even on CCS! Silver solder for the holes will be fine, maybe creating brass pegs from rod a bit bigger than the hole but with pointed ends to go in the holes, because as you’ll know the silbraze won’t gap-fill. Only possible snag - and it’s a big one - is that the tank might be rotten inside and the holes you see are only the ones that have broken through the corrosion. Given that gasoline/naptha is the fuel you certainly don’t want to pressurise a tank of that stuff and light the stove if there’s a chance that it’s about to spring a leak at any moment. That’d relegate it to shelf queen for me. Regarding the ‘carburettor’ valve, yes, you could have it stay put and hope that the fine jet evidently at the end sipping the fuel isn’t blocked, but hey, you’re going to take a MAPP torch to the tank to fill the holes so maybe zap the valve to loosen the thread lock? Your call on the integrity of the tank. Good luck mate. John
Thank you for the heads up on internal corrosion, and the repair method, I’m still to sort out the carburettor, I’m always cautious wit the pressure vessels particularly the petrol ones. Being old as they are they can be unpredictable. I may know someone with a camera that can see what the inside is like. I’m a bit far off but I’ve been taking pictures for the gallery for others to see and reference Thank you John.

Rarely seen, let alone the ‘innards’ you’re disclosing.
