Hi I just picked up this lamp, I know absolutely nothing about them but a Google search has led me here, I would love it if anyone could tell me a bit more about it and also how to operate it. Thanks
Welcome aboard! That is a Veritas round wick paraffin lamp, the glass chimney is not the correct type, it's for a duplex lamp/twin flat wicks.
Thank you, so after looking at a few youtube videos I’ve managed to get it apart and take the old wick, so I need to find a replacement one. Can it be used ok with that glass? It fits fine
Ah ok thank you I appreciate your help. Is there anywhere you can recommend to look for a replacement glass please and also a wick or is it too old to source either easily?
Is the wick made round or is it actually a flat wick which is forced to form a circle on it's way through the burner? One place I might look for suitable spares is here Ets A et P GAUDARD, Petrol lamps, Oil lamps, Handmade French
@Wilmawoo That’s a ‘tubular’ wick of which supplier The Base Camp says, I recommend you phone The Base Camp and discuss your requirements for the wick and the correct glass chimney, which they stock also.
Hello and welcome! That is a nice old lamp Some great advice already.. base camp are very knowledgeable and helpful and stock a vast amount of lamp spares www.base-camp.co.uk Good luck with everything Regards pb
Thank you I will take a look, I did find another company j moncrieff that have responded with some helpful products and the lampshades are really lovely so I think I’ll be getting one of those
Great thank you, yes some helpful info and I seem to be on the right track to restoring it to use. It is a lovely looking lamp and with the shades I’ve seen it’ll definitely have a new lease of life, assuming it works fine once I get it back together
