Wow, looking at it in its natural state, it makes me wonder why Coleman had painted the top hunter green. It's so beautiful. I would never fire it up. It's a museum piece.
That's an awesome looking lantern. Was the hood/vent originally chromed or nickelled the way it is in the pictures? I'm not aware that Coleman ever did that on a 228.
All of the ones I saw online had the iconic green Coleman paint on the top hat. It's absolutely stunning in nickle.
The Hunter Green coating on the hoods/hats isn't paint. It is porcelain or vitreous enamel. I don't know if Coleman ever state that as 'Hunter Green'. I only know they stated the colour as just 'Green'.
No, Coleman never did a 228Vent in nickle, this is one that I had stripped of the enamel and nickel plated.
Wow that is so cool I'm a new Coleman collector lanterns My nicest is a nickel big hat 1952 from Canada it's pretty nice but I was looking at a nickel plated hat I'm like I've never seen that so that makes sense that you had that nickel plated I just wonder did you personally do that or do you have that done I'd like to have that done myself any info would be appreciated Thank you
There's a local company to me who specialize in chrome and nickel plating and polishing. So the vent was farmed out to them. The collar and burner cage I polished myself to a mirror finish.
