Hello all, So off we went on another adventure the day before my wife's birthday for four nights and five days, I believe we traveled over 1200km or more in that time from town to town as we always do when we are on the lookout for lamps and of course Maureen's collections, mostly smoking memorabilia these days. Im happy to say that we did find some great bargains for Maureen's collection and she had a wonderful time as did I. For those that know Victoria we stayed at Ballarat and used that as our base camp, travelling about 200km to 300km in all directions each day. I must say that there are plenty of lamps still out there in all honesty I have left well over 60 lamps behind for others. I have enough of the same type of lamps, also I will only buy bargains these days. You can still buy X246 Guardsman for $45 AUD if you know where to find them. So this is what I got a Coleman 157 March 1949, Coleman 159X January 1952, both are in very good condition and only need a good clean and mantels. If I am correct from what I have read these two Colemans run on shellite (gasoline) as they dont have the Air intake adjuster part number 159-145 am I correct? Then I picked up a Tilley X246B for spare parts, Tilley X246 Guardsman dated October 1956 also bought for spare parts, I will see how the fount comes up on this Guardsman and maybe use as a working lamp if the fount doesn't polish up enough for my collection. Next we have a Tilley EX100 in what I believe is in excellent condition and well stay as is besides a good clean and a globe which I have a spare 182 original and last but not least we have a Kayen AP2 steel fount and Tilley metho bottle, funnel, Primus metho can and a spare Coleman globe for what I dont know, as I dont know much about coleman, if you know what it fits please let me know thanks. Now for the photos. Thanks for looking and any answers would be much appreciated
Can you post photos of them without the shade? The 159X: For kerosene it, should have a spirit dish, and not have an air restrictor at the bottom of the air tube. To run it on gasoline (Shellite) it should have an air restrictor. The 157 should be gasoline (Shellite) unless it’s a 157X. Tony
Hi Brian, Could I ask a question about the shades on the Coleman table lamps? In some of the photos there seems to be a ‘chevron’ pattern visible? Is that the case or was it just the light? Cheers pb
Hi Brian, Sorry for any confusion ; what I meant was that on the attachment picture above there seems to be a ‘zigzag’ pattern? I was just curious and thought I would ask if it was just the way the photo turned out or if there was a pattern on the shade? Hope that’s a bit clearer Regards pb
@podbros I suppose there is a pattern but you have to look in the right light, this is the best I can do. See photo.
