Just fired up this primus 1051 It has been quite a challenging lamp right from dissambly through to fettling and even lighting up. It is stamped AB for 1937 I can see why people like these lamps, esp with the little pre heater torch. They certainly look the part, beautifully made mechanical kit to light the way and serve you well. Lighting this lamp was the gift that kept on giving. Everything started well enough, the lamp held good pressure overnight and made the right noises when you twiddled things. Added some fuel and the pre heater lit straight up, so far so good. Opening the control valve revealed that I needed to tighten the packing a bit more. Next lesson was instead of admiring the pretty blue flame of the pre heater time is better spent pumping so it actually heats the generator. As a result of this i have leant that unvapourised fuel collects in the bottom of the cage and does not stay there for long. Eventually I had a successful Bunsen test and fitted some luxor 200/300cp mantels and prepared to bask in the light. Unfortunately a previous owner had painted the hood green and when it started to warm up it got smelly. A quick loan of a brown hood from a 1050 and we are lit up. Enjoy
