I am new to pressure lamps and still learning about all the different types of lamps. My first purchase was a Sea Anchor 500 that ended up in a fireball and put to the back of the cupboard until I had learnt a little more. I now have the Sea Anchor up and working and what a lantern it is. The light is very powerful and consistent. It is a shame that these lamps have such a bad rep but its started me thinking if a Anchor lamp is as good as this then how much better is the original Petromax.
Get one and find out try and find an early one - lots of clues on this site to tell you the best way to tell Hipolito HK502 are good too (they used to make petromaxen at some point)
A Hipolito is my next step. I have looked at all the Petromax lamps on the market and their seems to be far more clones (ten and eleven pointed suns) and the chances of getting a clone for the Petromax.
The Anchor is different from the Sea Anchor. Anchor lanterns are some of the better-made ones of Asian origin(China). The Anchor brand was established long before the Sea Anchor brand. Sea Anchor is relatively modern and does not enjoy as good a reputation as the Anchor.
