Yeah don't give up ! I am sure a NOS vapoursider will show its face at some point. The Porkpie lantern is a design classic !
@Fireexit1 if you ever give up we can trade for coleman It’s a pretty lamp you got there and I’m sure you can get that running again.
Hi there lots of help on here , my take on it is to ensure no leaks =good pressure , I know you said it had good pressure , but , as advised on here by those in the know , I always do a dunk test for air leaks . if non then . pressure up and leave for 12 /24 hours and see if still not leaking ,I have always found the pump the culprit . The vapouriser has carbon on it then you need to remove it ( see cleaning vapourisers ) To my limited knowledge heat transfer is restricted to the vapouriser Internally and Exrernally. if the vapouriser is cleaned and all seals ( all seals ) replaced supple and crack free . When vapouriser cleaned or replaced , you should be able to see light at the nipple end when holding up to the light , making sure the pricker is clean , thats my take on it happy cleaning .
@nicky boy The burn on my Tilley was almost exactly like yours in this picture: Can you post a picture of the vaporizer's tip/jet end? Mine was due to a highly evasive auxillary or side leak around the jet end. The resultant burn was overly rich. Characteristic flame halo outside the mantle and the glow was dim like in the picture. If you'd take extra precautions, this can be confirmed by testing it with light naphtha/Çoleman Fuel or even gasoline. I've done that on mine. The burn improved considerably with petrol as the fuel instead of kerosene. That was even before rectifying the root cause. If you try this, be extra careful that there are no apparent leaks on your porkpie. Tilleys are not designed to use gasoline or light naphtha. Never attempt this inside the house. I eventually brazed-up the generator end to seal the inconspicuous leak. Once the root cause was eliminated, my Tilley finally worked like it should. Similar to you, I thought Tilleys were not meant for me. Before rooting out the actual problem, my belief was, I have zero luck with them,...like a curse or something. It was my first Tilley which came with the box. By the way, there's also another problem with the Tilley which, hasn't been revisited for quite a while. I remember it was discussed in this forum a number of years ago. Its the burner-dome-mixing chamber. They have a peculiar 'limited lifespan' which, somehow defies explanation. A piece that appears defect-free can actually be 'worn-out' and wouldn't work as intended. That'd also result in something similar to the symptoms on your lamp.
