Nice one Kenny, hope someone can give you some information about it, especially about the hood as I assume it wouldn't have had a cream painted one.

Hi jean it did have a cream top on it when I found it ??
The T20 chrome has a cream top ? I don't know if that means anything or not ..

Interesting find. I haven't seen any adverts that list chrome as an option for the T10.

Hello Kenny, if I recall correctly that meths cup was the last type which W&B made for the T-10, I'm not certain if it was also used on the T-20.

The chrome finish may have been ordered by a specific customer and I do not recall ever seeing a Bialaddin gallery which was chromed, it is a 1950's lamp and a great find! Jeff.

Yes Jeff I thought fifths but I had never seen this cup before so seems the chrome version is one of the last produced

    Nice find, Kenny.

I have seen that die-cast alloy spirit cup several times on T10s and had guessed (no more) that it was earlier than the pressed brass(?) one as, firstly it looked to be more expensive to produce and secondly, as the pressed version is often/always on the T20.

I wonder if this was a factory prototype, either to investigate the possibility of offering the option of the T10 in chrome as well as cream, or to investigate the possibilities of offering the T20 in chrome.

If the former, I'd imagine it was not proceeded with due to it being felt there would be little demand for the chrome version because of the extra cost. If the latter, my guess would be that it went ahead due to the increased prosperity then being enjoyed compared with the early 50s...

An interesting piece and I just wonder? I have one image taken some years ago of a chrome lamp like this which was not a Bialaddin but a Solar from Hong Kong. This is not the same though because that Solar has a combined pump/filler in the Tilley style and lacks the groove around the base. However the basic shape and style including the cream enamel gallery is the same. I wonder therefore if this is a variation of that Solar.

This is the lamp. Both lamp and images belong to Apichai Kaewduangtien.

Hi guys, I just saw a chrome based T10 for sale in an antique shop. It also has the painted hood. I didn’t purchase it as I’d never seen one before ( t10 that is ) and I wasn’t sure it was all there and how much restoration was needed. On reflection now I think I’ll go back for it ! It appears to be in good condition & they are asking £80?

Definitely go back and try to get a bit off @Midniteoil. £80 is a wee bit hefty even for an unusual model. Still not sure that I like the cream hood though.

My T20 came with a cast aluminium spirit cup.

    Mmm.
Pressed cup - punch blank from brass sheet, place blank in press, remove from press and put in a different press to fix tube which slides over vapouriser, prepare assembly for plating (acid bath ? polish), plate assembly, polish, fit wick (which does not come free of charge) on centre tube.

Brass was no doubt cheaper than aluminium but time is money.

Cast cup - pour molten alumnium into a mould, allow to cool, remove from mould. Job done. :-k

Has to be a rare thing. I acquired a chrome T10 recently which was at the time the only example I knew of. Pretty much the same but does have the strap around the rim and the plated brass spirit cup fitting.

Hi all, there is a chrome T10 up on eBay at the moment for a silly amount of money but someone might be interested. Also I spoke to someone who claims to have 2 of them ……….with chrome hoods. I haven’t actually seen them. I will ask him to send me picture.
