Just tried an experiment yesterday with some success. Poor performance from a Quick-Lite was remedied by a replacement Q99 generator. But I hated to throw away the original so I took a can of Powder Blast (made for cleaning firearms, blackpowder weapons etc) and filled the old Q99 with it (after removing the tip to ensure that the orifice wasn’t blocked). Anyhow, let that soak for 15 minutes and then blew it out with a light jet of compressed air. Lots of schmutz came out. Tested the generator in its previous home, with some improvement. Then repeated the process several more times, before reinstalling. The lantern seems to be performing at or very near to its original level. I’ll see if the improvement is temporary, but I’m encouraged that it seems to be breathing quite freely again.

Thanks Martin and Erwin. Great resources and as I enjoy anything involving a TORCH, well worth trying ... I did try my little trick on a clogged up 200a generator, though, and no joy. The stuff inside is so baked on that it's not going anywhere with whatever chemical agents I have at my disposal. So I'm going to try the thermal stress method and see if that breaks it loose. Unfortunately the pricker needle is gone on the one I was working on, but if this quenching trick works I have another badly clogged example that still has the needle intact. Best. Ulf
