The flame isn’t that high, it’s a reflection in the globe, evident from this video clip - a kerosene pressure stove in the background provides the soundtrack! On the base, what I perceive to be manufacturer’s scratched marks. I interpret ‘2/48’ as the month/year of manufacture. That would be consistent with the lantern make and model. Embury had their factory in Warsaw, NY. ‘Supreme’ was the superlative they applied to much of their range. It’s a tall lantern (16-inches excluding the bail) and has a 7/8-inch wick, as has the Chalwyn Tempest on the left. Chalwyn Tropic on the right. The lantern’s glass has no marks identifying its manufacturer incidentally. John
Very nice! The Embury lanterns are very well made, I have a few of them. The "stand-up" bail was a feature they advertised. This would be the proper Embury globe, I believe.
Thanks Paul. I’d read of a genuine globe’s markings. Good to see an example. I didn’t know that. A feature I quickly came to appreciate, easy to grab with no fumbling to raise the bail for use and no clatter of a dropped bail when the lantern is set down. John
