    Hi,
    I have just bought an Aladdin (model after 1A?) and discovered the NRV loose rattling in the tank. I believe it is normally part of the pump? Is it possible to repair? Otherwise it’s in good condition. Any help is appreciated.

    @Jock

    Welcome!

    The NRV screws into the bottom of the pump tube, accessed through the pump tube when the pump rod is extracted.

    Is/was all of the NRV in the tank? A photo of it would be useful.

    Cheers

    Tony

    Hi Jock, welcome to the forum, Jock is there anything screwed into the bottom of the pump tube when you look down inside it with a torch, or is there just a threaded hole into which the NRV screws into? sometimes when the NRV is unscrewed to repair it the bottom half of the NRV unscrews and falls into the tank.

    Do you have another complete NRV to screw into the lantern? trying to get the bottom half of the NRV out of the tank is a real challenge, my thoughts are alike to Tony above, regards Frank

    Hi Tony,
    when I look down the pump tube all I can see is the bottom of the tank. When I shook the lamp looking down the tube I could see the top/bottom of the NRV, it looks complete as far as I can tell. I have tried to manipulate it and had the small round bit lining up but couldn’t lift it with my ‘sticky’tool as the wider part is of course the same diameter. Any suggestions?

    Hi outback boy,
    First up- thanks for the welcome guys.
    Looking down the pump tube I can’t see any thread at all. Can you get a complete replacement down the pump tube? And if so, where would I get one from? Would be fantastic if I could get it going again as - if I mentioned- the lantern is in great condition.

    It sounds like the end of the pump tube (with NRV) might have fallen off. That could be a challenge getting out. Probably the only solution is to remove the pump tube.

    Jock, this is the type of NRV that screws into the very bottom of the pump tube

    I think you are right Nils. I can’t see any thread at the end of the pump tube.

    Hi outback boy. Thanks for the photo.That looks very much like what's floating’ in the tank. But I can’t see any thread at the pump tube end. I think Nils is correct by suggesting the whole end has fallen of incl. the NRV.

    @Jock . Hi there and welcome to the group. Sounds like the bottom of your pump tube has parted. It’s not an easy fix. If you have the skills set you could remove the pump tube, make the repairs it will burn any paint original, I have a posted thread about a NRV that wouldn’t budge and the extent of the work I went through to fix it it will give you an idea.

    At least this is a nickel plated tank so it should be able to do it quite neatly. Remember you only need to use lead solder for this job.

    @Jock

    That photo does not show, to me, that the bottom has fallen off the pump tube.

    It appears to show a central hole on a plate at the bottom of the pump tube. Am I right?

    Edit: Alternatively, is there something lodged in the pump tube?

    Hi Toni, I’ve taken another photo, hopefully a bit clearer. It shows the top of the NRV lying on the bottom of the tank.
    No obstruction in the tube.

    I think that might be a pump leather seen down the tube. It does look like the bottom has fallen off with NRV still in it.

    Well there is a bright side. Assuming that the NRV and bottom plate won't pass through the filler neck the only way to get it out is to de-solder the pump tube.
    It should pass out through that hole no problem then the whole lot can be reunited before putting it back in the tank again.

    I thought that was the case. Thanks for confirming it and pointing me in the right direction how to tackle it.
    I’ll update you on progress.
