I found this Phare Besnard “Peebee” in Spain in reasonably good condition but minus the generator and every pane of mica. Fortunately the chimney frame was still there. A good clean up, made some seals, dismantled the chimney to replace the mica and fitted a repro generator and away she goes. Great build quality as you’d expect of the period. The chimney rebuild was fiddly but not as bad as I expected.
Apart from the chimney refurb it was fairly straightforward. The chimney needed a few days in the evaporust bucket!
The guillotine gave a better finish on the mica cuts compared with the scissors. A Stanley knife blade was really helpful too for opening up the frame to insert the new mica. Parallel brass pliers were good for crimping it all tight again.
@Serge - It does and I presume it pretty much is the same bar the stamping on the burner support. I’m still getting my head around the different Nulite models. The 5, 5M and even the 2 look very similar bar the generator. The 2 appears to have the high level tip cleaner. The 5M relates to the match lighting umbrella? Interesting that the 5M can also accept an R55. Will see how it goes with the current umbrella repro gen, but may run it with an R55 for ease.
Nice to see such a rare lamp fettled up to such good condition, great find and great work esp with the mica chimney.
