I'm looking at a Gravity lamp from Sun Vapor. I have several questions. It has been electrified. Appears wire run through burner, generator, through frame, up through the fount and out the finial. A hole may or may not have been drilled into finial (would this possibly be a air vent hole for the lamp?) I would like to turn it back into a gas lamp if possible. Was the generator hollow? The next main question is how did the generator connect or feed gas to the burner. Posting a pic of burner sent to me, to see if something was drilled or removed from under the burner in order to run the wire.
Who is the expert on Sun Vapor Gravity lamp???? Probably Connny but others will know as well. In the mean time.
Yes it is. I can't tell if the valve body is open at bottom and if the wire is running through it. If the valve body is supposed to be open at bottom then maybe it is intact. If not then the valve body may be missing. Question is how can I find a valve body if needed???? Of course I would need instructions on how to run one of these things. Nothing on youtube. The lamp I am looking at is Gorgeous and pretty close to MINT other than than wiring. I just don't know if it is worth buying for the price and then finding out it can not be reconverted back to gas.
Thanks, I wasn't certain. I would love to make it burn again. It is so pretty. I guess it is still pretty as electrified, but would be wonderful if it was back to gas.
It is officially mine! I also found an Ann Arbor burner, just in case. Being Shipped out to me on Saturday. It is actually a "Best" lamp. Sun Vapor also had same model.
That is a nice looking lamp. I am not finding it in Best or Sun Vapour catalogues but this is from an Ann Arbor catalogue. This is a Best burner.
Well that is ok too. I don't have any books. The chimney may be why they thought it was a Best or Sun Vapor
Maybe it isn't all original then because Ann Arbor used Macbeth chimney. It is close enough and the shade is gorgeous. I'm not much of a pink fan, but there is something about that shade I really like
Anthony, the burner I found came in first. So I found the hole the wire goes through is already there, it sits above what I believe is the built in generator of the burner. Worse comes to worse they may have removed screen or drilled a hole through it because the existing center hole looks too small for a wire to go through. Now either I braze the finial and it will never look the same or see if I can find an Ann Arbor finial. Any ideas who might possibly have a spare finial? Or be able to tell me how to remove the burner screen to transfer if needed?
No. I actually found the burner for it, but I am keeping it electric for now. I have it in my living room. Sorry I couldn't help you out on that.
Missed this thread in 2021 but what an absolutely fabulous lamp, or should I say glorious? I’m quite jealous.
