Petromax 826 -Early post-war model. -The hood cap is unmarked. -The upper part of the carburator is not yet reinforced. -It doesn't say "super" on the nameplate. -The tank scratch ist well preserved but difficult to read. I read 11/0.
It looks great. Another thing is, while these early post-war Petromax hoods had almost assume the shape/design of the later ones, they aren't exactly the same. Particularly, the features near and around the vent. I find that the vent holes are more 'squarish' or 'rectangularish' as compared to later ones. There's also a more pronounced 'step' under the vent outlets. Also, the presence of the access hole for the J-tube adjustment 'flap'.
I took a look at my collection. You have to take into account that the Interfaces of the modifications were probably not always January 1st. 1950,1951,1952 1953,1954,1955,1956,1957 1958,1959,1960,1961,1962,1963,1964,1965,1966,1967,1968,1969,1970,1971,1972 1975 The years 1975/76 we're an exception. The hoods looked likely did from 1953 to 1957 again. The almost identical LANTERNE D-306/506 had the same hoods in 1975/76. 1977,1981,1990 Unfortunately,I am missing many vintages from the Portuguese construction period.Perhaps the Petromax brand lanterns were no longer produced annually or only in small numbers during this period.
Very remarkable difference over the years. Those early post-war designs should then refer in general from after WWII to say, 1957? I'd be more inclined to note that those from 1958 (or in general, 1960s) onwards, up to present, as the 'later' production models. Interesting thing about 1975/76 models. I also forgot to mention that the oblong slots around the hood for both pre-war and early post-war are slightly shorter than the 'later' models.
