Hi every one hope your all keeping well . I have two Petromax nrv both came from 1962 tanks . I've had a close look and tried the usual method of unscrewing them to replace the rubber pip but they are either being very stubborn or not meant to come apart . Some help on this would be very useful . Thanks marten
Ah, those are the throw-away non-serviceable NRV's, the rubber pip is inserted followed by the spring and then the free end is rolled in to hold everything in place. Item 11 here Petromax Spares Price List
Thanks Henry . My usual method is to try and unscrew it till I break it and then ask hahaha Just my luck these are non serviceable, I have all the parts needed and a sheet of lead to make the seals with . I do have some nos magnalux anchor pump valves that should fit ,so it's not all bad . Marten
Hi there! For the more recently made Petromax 829 (and Chinamus 1551) the NRV have the slot many fettlers damage using a screwdriver. The servicable one looks like this.
And... if in doubt there are also left threaded servicable valves. They are inter-changeable so they can be on every year or petromax style brand.
@Matti Kucer thanks yes I know about breaking those with the screwdriver,I had one or two on my petclones that were a little stubborn . @WimVe that is a very useful piece of information ,normally I would just keep trying untill it or me surrendered
The thread for screwing the valve into the pump tube is right-handed. At least, I have not seen any others so far. However, on some (but not all) Ditmars and Hasags, the sleeve that encloses the spring and the sealing piece (pip) has a left-hand thread. And the slot at the bottom of this sleeve tends to tear if you apply too much force. Therefore, it is better to use pliers on the upper end, where the sleeve is stabilized by the screwed-in valve seat.
@Martin K. that is what I write or at least I thought I did. Question was about the already removed valve and how to get it apart.
Never seen one of these and yesterday serviced one, lucky me being in the USA and not many P-Max style lamps here to buy and the Aida just recently got has one of these $uckers my Aida it’s back in service
Works great. Although the heat shield never was a part of an AIDA. I thought BR&^%ht sold petromax clones in the USA so lantern and parts would not be a problem.
