Recently picked up this Optimus 1550/500CP and unfortunately when I went to fire it up, I discovered that the bottom solder seam and the seam at the preheater are riddled with hairline cracks, too small to get a good picture of. Would it be safe to try to resolder these seams or should I start searching for a new fount? Thanks in advance.

I'd try soldering first. Just make sure that everything is clean, both inside and out. These work on kerosene only, so there is no explosion risk if there is a small leak when testing (just do it outside :) ).

Thanks, I'll try it out and see what comes of it. I guess I've got nothing to lose.
