Just got my first quick-lite and i was suprised to see that it doesnt have the quick-lite logo or a date on the fount. Can anyone explain why and maybe help me date it. Bottom says coleman lamp co usa
Welcome, @tommy fuller. I assume you’re referring to a Coleman Quick-Lite CQ table lamp. If so, and there is no date stamp or logo on the fount, and the air tube on the burner assembly is stamped with only the US Patent, it will be from 1919-1924. If it has no Patent stamp there, it’s from 1917-1919. The other things to look for to narrow down the date (for a start) are: 1. Length of fibre handle and its markings; 2. Any markings, letters on the fibre wheel. Here is the Reference Gallery for the Coleman CQ: CQ, CQF, CQG, CQF Cheers Tony
Thanks tony. Ill check out the gallery and figure it out. Any idea why it doesnt have anything on the fount? Seems like most do.
@tommy fuller , the logo stamp on side of fount began in 1924 as @Tony Press explained about mid year, an employee in the test department L.H. Jones , made a suggestion to management to simply add a date stamp which was to aid in warranty purposes, He was largely rewarded monetarily for his suggestion that did not include additional cost to the process. Some logo only stamped founts are found as one in my collection before the dates got added. Larry
@tommy fuller , here is a link to the earliest C fount Q lamps before the CQ designation was given in mid 1917, not shown in @Tony Press link. “Q” 1916 & C fount “Q” Early 1917 Larry
