Greetings All These 2 guys came in last week Started with the Radius 119 This one is my fastest turn around lamp Was received on Friday at 13.oo Work had me busy till after 9pm So when I woke up at 3am on saterday I started Stripped her down While everything was in the citric I made up the internal baffle plate This was the only metal piece that was toast Measure drill bend and we are ready to rumble Usual issue with the nrv So loosened all solder This as I needed to fix the bad work on the filler cap Complete pump tube out and repaired the nrv from the bottom Spring was still good but the Cork pip needed to be replaced So a new viton pip All re-soldered The pressure release system had been soldered closed Here all solder removed New viton seals Thank heavens the Brass plate spring and brass cap were all still present Note the butterfly wings Pressure test passed without a burb Well apart from the needed out the safety valve The only real issue was the jet Had a Rich burn Here I used the Ragisol jet as the spare jet I only got fixed today Pricker wire was stuck inside So a few heats and quenches and eventually came out First light up was just after 13hoo on saterday Here we have the 3 together This from this morning after fixing he correct jet I am very happy with the result The Argentinian Is going to need more time
Here a sneaky look Appologies random order But sure you all get the idea Plenty terminal issues But I do have a plan
Rigosol is the glass manufacturer. The lamp is listed in the PLC as L107 but it is another clone of a Volcan 850 probably made by Cuareta S.A. Calle Cobos, Barrio de Boedo, Buenos Aires, Argentina ::Neil::
When the pressure relief filler cap was introduced, the first ones had these wings. If original to the lamp (and it looks like it), then that would make it a 1934 model.
Thanks Mac Burner for the info Thanks Nils I found 2 stamps on the lamp Will see if I have the pics There is a T on the fount And an A somewhere else This on Radius
Here clearly the T In the restore rush I did not take a pic of the A Think it was on the gennie Will have a gander when I get home
I have seen letters stamped in those positions on the older Radius 119s. Not always the same letter and I have no idea what they mean. They do stop sometime during the 30s though. Can't say exactly when.
Nils Thanks again Sir I also see the base of the fount profile is slightly different Good soft curve Vs the later ones a little sharper angle
Greetings Here a few snaps post Citic bath soak The hood as can be seen is toast Here I shall modify a Butterfly inner and Petromax hat More to follow as there is some lite engineering needed Widths heights etc Seems the are a few pieces of the cage that can be used even if slightly eaten away
Plenty plans here Basically A Butterly inner that needs to be modified Burner tube is connected removed the bottom flare the blue needs to be removed then i will trim the Petromax outer here the trimned butterfly should fit need to remove one step
Some engeneering Not the world's best Decided to use the old rusty hood So the butterfly did not need any more trimming Changed this settup Spacer is below This to get the gas tip to locate in the gallery The Petromax was saved Used a Butterfly that now goes inside the left overs from the original Top nut secures it all This so the gas tip locates properly The rest apart from sorting the pricker was pretty easy Needed to take a wee bit of respect as plenty rust fatigue
So we all together Other issue was the usual sheared off nrv So some heat to get the pump tube out Drilled out thd naughty piece and replaced with a referbed primus stove nrv Test fired Need to seal off the ceramic as a wee leak But we are nearly there It's Alive
Well after plenty stuggles With getting the flame to burn properly Decided to put on the Radius hood And there we go it lights the night Seems I had a few measurements backwards So I took it all apart and in the am will measure correctly and might a few bits to test More to follow
So this am it was back to the drawing board In my haste I believed the butterfly inner would work Hell no ! So copied the Radius innards Still a few tweaks needed As the nrv has a little leak of parrafin So will get a new lead seal down there Also the pump stem is really Sh111t So will possibly use a butterfly stem This as there is zero air flow on the up stroke For now I am happy It runs on its own Even if slightly crude home baked fettle I think this one shall be named as follows Rusty Rogue Rigosol Any take from you more Wize folk on that fount marking
Getting the Rigosol going is nothing short of a miracle. Fantastic work and some ingenious use of alternative parts. I've been thinking recently, that parts for some old lanterns, particularly the rarer ones might soon become virtually impossible to find. As this happens, us collectors will need to get increasingly creative and make, mend or adapt parts to bring them back from the brink.
Thanks all Today I just straightened the gennie tube a few degrees in This as the vapour was not entering the burner tube correctly Only noticed this when I was fiddling with it lit as the good white light was a little intermittent With a few degrees tilt while running the jetting got spot on Bent the tube a few degrees in Light up this eve was perfect
Agree with Colin.. top fettling all the work on the radius was enough with desoldering/resoldering everything in sight.. Great job and i enjoyed reading/viewing
Here is the parting shot This was this morning when our power company of the country decides to share our electricity with supply The beautifull loadshedding I was busy with a Coleman 500 D 38 restore when the lights went out So trusty came in handy
