    Hello,
    What fuel do they use? I'm planning to buy and fix one of those but I read they use gasoline. (Gasoline is highly explosive). It all depends if I can get the right fuel here in Chile. I just want to make it light.
    I hope you can help.

    @Adolfo

    These run on pure naphtha (pure gasolina; or "white gas" in north America). I do not know what the Chilean-spanish word is.

    Look here:

    Tony,
    Muchas gracias. White gas can be "bencina blanca" in Spanish . I ask you that, because I don't want to cause an explosión. When using my Petromax I add kerosene (the same I use in the heating device). I'm afraid of causing an explosión if I add the same fuel I buy at the filling station (pure gasoline).

    “White gas” is gasoline without the additives used in automobile gasoline. Often, in Europe, it is referred to as Naphtha.

    That is what your lamp uses. It can run on clean kerosene but it needs a spirit cup fitted to the generator so that the kerosene can be pre-heated.

    Interesting... What makes the diference between this Coleman 242B and some other lanterns in terms of the fuel the use? . Unleaded gasoline is without additives perhaps.

    Modern unleaded gasoline has many additives.
