I picked up this Tilley DN250 Iron on the weekend and it intrigued me enough to have a go at firing it up. I pulled it down and gave it a good clean and it looked to be in great condition. I did not replace any parts and it fired up easily on the first try. It pumps out a lot of heat on the lowest setting so I don't think that you would use it on modern synthetic clothing but would be great on cotton based products like sheets etc. Another working toy for the display )
My mother used to use one, lucky for me she had kept it in a box, not the original box and now it's mine. I didn't have to change anything either, it also fired up on the first light. So my wife ironed some hankies with no problems. Looks like yours is in fantastic condition.
I agree with @Buggerlugs that your iron is in great condition. Many floating around have considerable wear and missing paint. The Australian Export brand paint found in many discount stores, has a colour ivory that is almost a perfect match.
@Koala edit sorry I got confused I did have to change the seals on my mother's DN250 iron. It was my DN250A that I just gave a good clean and that one fired up straight away.
I remember someone saying that the Tilley irons have three heat settings; hot, bloody hot, and way too bloody hot!
