It's a dull, wet and cold night here in Shetland, so I fired up my favourite indoor lamp and here it is, Jeff.
Nice lamp Jeff. Ive got four table lamps in the house, although seior managment (the wife) wont let light them.
Hello Al, in that case, is divorce to drastic a solution so that lamps can be lit? It would be expensive though!
No question an understanding Wife is a great asset. For 30 odd good years my lady Melina not only tolerated lamps but she was pretty good at firing them up and could talk the talk with the punters at displays as well. Mind you there were limits and the living room was hers not mine to fill with lamps. ::Neil::
Yes, last time I was there, I noticed there were 1 or 2 lamps in the living room. 1 or 2 hundred, that is...
Ah yes well I don't have a wife any more. Melina left me in 1999. Taken to pastures new by the big C. So with no restraints the lamps sort of crept in. I would rather still have her here and maybe a few less lamps but in life you have to play with the cards you're dealt. ::Neil::
RE: 1930s Tilley TL-10 Wow.I haven't seen one of those lamps lit up since 1958 when I was a kid. It looks awesome. That lamp looks a lot like the one I have only mine is stainless steel and shorter "rod" on it. Does that take "white gas" and where can you buy the mantles please? Thanks
They do give a fine light, but all Tilley lamps, lanterns and heaters run on paraffin/kerosene and have to be pre heated with a meths torch. Perhaps you could add some photos of your lamp and then I or another collector may be able to identify it and advise you on it's operation, Jeff.
