Picked up my first Coleman recently, a 220K dated 8/81 which came with its original box. Took it out today, fitted 2 new #21 mantles and away it went. I have to admit being pleasantly surprised at how easy to operate this lantern is.

There are a couple of rusty spots to deal with but I’m so looking forward now to finding more Colemans to play with :D/

The 220’s are great! I own a few and they are reliable, easy to fettle and readily available (here in the states).
    Good luck with yours!

I picked up one of these last year at a car boot sale and didn't take much to get it going, what fuel are you using in yours, I run mine on holts brake cleaner.

Unfortunately not in my neck of the woods. Very few opportunities to buy that don’t involve very long trips or ridiculous postage costs. But I still manage to get the odd one
Hi Ian, I used Aspen 4 but I was comparing prices yesterday and there is very little difference so I may get some Holts next. Do you believe there is a benefit in running one over the other?

Hi stuart, I've used Aspen 4 as well and both work superbly, no difference.

I have just picked up a Coleman 220k
Paid £20 not working paraffin lantern.
I have Tilley and Bialaddin kerosene/paraffin lamps.
I suspected it was not a kerosene lamp.
It smells of rank stale petrol inside.
I new there was the Coleman fuel and I suspected this is just a light gasoline (petrol in UK) distillate such as naphtha based. To find it will run as dual fuel or Coleman or aspen 4 which is a very pure high grade petrol, is refreshing. I have loads of aspen 4 for my garden machinery.
I have a Zippo hand warmer and I realised years ago brake cleaner is the same as Zippo lighter fuel.
I also have a product at work we use gallons of. It is a degreaser type marked as thinners/panel wipe.we use to clean Formica and pvc edging and to remove excess glue as we manufacture tables and furniture. I run my hand warmer on it in the cold winter workshop. Wonder if this would be ok for the Coleman too
Any advice on where to get mantles and washers for the 220k in the UK would be appreciated ???

Base-camp looks like they have a limited stock as Coleman won't deal.
Looking forward to not have to pre heat

While not in the UK, Old Coleman Parts will ship to you. You might be better off starting a new thread for your question rather than tacking on to a year old one.

    Cheers.
