    I have some NOS mantles is there a way to tell if they are the radioactive type?

    Hi Nick. The only sure-fire way is with a geiger counter. The packaging gives it away normally. If the light is very white it may contain thorium. As long as you burn it off outdoors, don't breath in the smoke I would not worry about it. Probably best if the ash ends up in the bin as well when it dies.
