I picked this up earlier in the week. Clearly it’s not got the pre heat burner wick assembly, but the tank has no markings or stamps, either on the side or on the base plate, given the profile does that make it a <54 tank, clearly the frame, pump and control cock are later….
Looks a bit of a bitsa Gary All sorts of lamp from different times. The leg extensions enabled the fitting of the longer 169 vapouriser not the 606 which is normally on em Nice top tho Cheers pete
The control cock is obviously later than the tank but in order to make it fit there is a brass bush, similar to the adjusting ring we see on the later Guardsman lamps. I’ve not see that before.
Hi Gary Great find and perhaps you will come across parts for the preheater in time? I thought that bush was standard but maybe it came later? Here is a photo from the gallery I found Cheers pb and also this from Stuart Taylor’s post of his br hope other members don’t mind me using gallery images here Regards p
@Gary Waller @pete sav See this thread where I discuss a similar aluminium bush to allow the X246B control cock to be fitted to a X246 tank: Tilley Guardsman with unusual control cock arrangement I actually have a stack of these NOS aluminium bushes, which really have no purpose if you can get hold of a better (earlier) control cock. Cheers Tony
@Tony Press yep that’s it. I assume its purpose was solely to use the later control cock. In the case of the BR lamps maybe as a option to replace the pre heat wick arrangement? I have left it in place and just replaced the seals. Lamp is working well.
I also have one of those brass bushes, with the remains of nickle plating on a late Guardsman. I imagine its one of those end-of-line or service replacement type parts to allow a B cock on a Guardsman? Alec.
