During my recent restoration of a Tilley AL21 I removed the remains of a perished rubber gasket between the glass and the copper holding ring.

I was talking to Mike at Base Camp and he told me that there shouldn't have been a gasket there at all and the copper ring only should hold the glass in place.

I wondered what forum members experience was - gasket or no gasket? I'm sure Mike's correct but no harm in asking.

@pete sav well in that respect at least I've returned it to spec, the colours not so much. Just the decals now.

Nope nothing. The glass has to be able to expand.
