    Hello guys,

I just got a Lin-Mex lantern which was made in Mexico. It is a Coleman 236 clon. Does anyone know where to get a 236 tip cleaner? I searched OCP and there is nothing.
    Any info will be useful.

    Thanks a bundle.

    Hello Henry,

I visited that section of the page yesterday night, I saw those parts, but it seems to me the tip cleaner (the part I need) for that model is sold out.

    Hello Tony,
Great to meet you here!. You are right! Needles are available. How about a cleaner tip for the 236. That's the part I'm looking for! (See the pic attached)

    Regards!

I think you should send an email to Old Coleman Parts and as whether they have a Tip Cleaner Stem to fit the 236. There are some there, but I’m mot sure if there is one for a 236.

    Saludos

    Tony,

I will do. In the meantime, I will keep cleaning the fount. It's really murky down here. (white vinegar & some nuts)

    Cheers!

    Henry,

I haven't tested the lantern yet (pressure) because the cap fuel's gasket is damaged.
The thing is that it may leak. I rebuilt an old 242 B some time ago and I had to replace its tip cleaner & graphite packing. I don't find those parts here in Chile. I have to buy them from OCP and I want to order everything I need once.

    Henry,

Sorry, probably I didn't answer your inquiry correctly. The tip cleaner seems to be okay and strong enough, but I'm afraid it could leak and if it does I don't want to order again and pay an extra shipping for only one part. That's why I'm trying to find that part so that I include everything once from OCP.

The Tip Cleaner Stems for both Coleman 236 and 237 lanterns are not always available from OCP. The same goes for the generator assemblies. They are long obsolete and now mostly reproduction parts instead of original new old stock. However, you might need to wait a while till they are available again. Send them the inquiry.
Anyway, the tip cleaner stems are seldom worn or damaged beyond repair. At most, you might only need to replace the graphite packing.
As an alternative remedy for leaks, it is quite common for many like us to just wrap graphite tape or a length of expanded graphite packing around the stem of the tip cleaner and then snug down the gland nut.
Old Coleman spare parts are totally unavailable in my area. Even the parts for newer models are mostly unavailable.
As for myself, I had been way less fortunate in that the entire tip cleaning and generator assembly were missing from my 237. Since I don't purchase anything online(mail order), my only alternative was to completely fabricate/machine the whole tip cleaner stem and generator assembly from brass in a local machine shop.

    Hello MYN,

I'll see if I can build some pressure first. It's great to see that some people are able to build their own parts. As the saying goes: when there is a need, there is way

    Thanks

I’ve worked on very many pressure lamps with the Coleman-style “tip cleaner stem”. Only a very few needed replacement.

Most of the time any leak is caused by not enough graphite, or too hard graphite. The first trick is to heat the nut that holds the graphite then use a few drops of mineral oil on the graphite before replacing the part on the lantern. If it still leaks use a bit more graphite.

    Cheers

    Tony
