Last night my coleman quick lite valve stem blew out and my lamp turned into a flame thrower. Lit my hand on fire and almost burned the garage down. The pin in the stem was gone. Any thoughts on how to replace it so i can trust it again?
Not sure on model. It has the tall handle and no date so im thinking 1917 from what ive seen on here. C on the knob. Could be way off
Early table lamps had control spindles that unscrewed all the way out: no safety feature to prevent that happening. Is that what your lamp had, or did the hex fitting come adrift? Edit: On re-reading your first post, I gather the pin on the spindle failed. Is that correct? I had a similar accident a few years ago when I was testing an early lamp and my unwitting assistant thought that opening the valve more would make the light brighter! The stem flew across the shed and the stream of fuel ignited like a flame thrower. The fire extinguisher was close at hand, but cleaning up the mess was a complete pain. No real damage, luckily. Have you found the stem? Tony
Thats exactly what happened. I had it backed out to far and it popped when i went to shut it off. I looked at my other one and it has a lead pin or something in the hole of the stem creating a little bump on each side to keep it in im assuming
