    Hi all,

I am trying to refurbish the vapouriser on the Summit I’m working on. The vapouriser appears to have a spring inside with possibly an asbestos packing. It’s not for budging despite hours in the ultrasonic cleaner and an overnight soak in acetone then a heat and quench. A spring is visible and the packing is black and fibrous. I don’t want to damage the spring if I can help it. Can anyone advise on the likely internal structure of this and any tips for releasing it?

    Thanks!

It's a Nulite generator so I would expect the packing to be an asbestos cigar wrapped with a fine brass wire rather than a spring. My normal solution to your problen would be to drill it out and replace with new asbestos sring wound on a 3mm core rod. ::Neil::

Thank you @Mackburner. It definitely looks like a spring, maybe someone’s previous tinkering is the problem. Will persevere with the gentler methods for the rest of the week before some weekend drilling!

I couldn’t wait for the weekend. I slipped a fine drill bit down the path of least resistance and it started moving. This contraption was in the top, once that was out I could scrape out the packing. Only half way through so far as I was melting in the face mask.

That was certainly never original. Being an impatient type I would have had a long drill down there by now then a heat and quench followed up with a gun barrel bore brush in an electric drill. Then a 3mm rod wound with asbestos string to replace the packing. ::Neil::

Great progress Scott, hopefully it will be lighting the workshop up soon.
