Just picked up this little Austramax. It’s missing the screw insert in the fuel cap. Anyone know Where I can get one?? Thanks

Part 6 is what I need based on the oillamps.com website. They haven’t been responding to email.

I don't believe the manufacturer can help you with the missing air release screw as they have only made red plastic ones for some years. I am away from my notes so I am not certain but it will be either the pointy ended one or less likely one with a rubber cap.

thanks for that info. I may just find a stainless screw that will work and use it if nothing else is available.

The seat in the filler cap is different depending on the type of air release screw fitted. Originally it was a conical end on the screw that did the sealing, then they went to a rubber end on a metal screw and finally the all plastic screw.

@Mark 1331 Do you know how old the lamps is?

The modern red plastic one has a different thread.

Three different bleed screws for the Austramax. The tapered point will work on lanterns with flat bottom bleed screws but the flat type wont work if the cap is machined for the tapered point.

I can’t find a date on it. It’s unfired. The user manual with it seems to indicate the metal thumb screw

From the looks of the manual that came with it the screw is tapered metal

The instructions won’t be much help for identifying that part as they have not been reprinted for many years.

Does your Austramax have the straight or bulge glass?

It has straight glass. No markings so not sure if it’s original or not?

That will be an original glass. It helps me date the lantern.

Can you photograph the filler cap with as much detail as possible, and I will match it against my Austramaxes. I should have the correct screw, and I suspect it’s the later red plastic one.

    Cheers

    @Mark 1331

Look straight down the hole in the top of your filler cap: the surface where the release screw meets the filler cap should be flat if it takes the red plastic screw.

Great. Get yourself the red plastic release screw. If you can't find one in the USA let me know.

Thanks for all the help Tony. I can’t find a supplier in the US so far. I have a call into my lantern buddy to see if he knows of a source. I’ll get back with you - sounds like you may be may only option.

Tony my lantern expert tells me there is no US source that he knows of. If you have one you can part with email me at booth1331@zoominternet.net and we can work out the details. Thanks and thanks to all who responded to this thread.
