A working condition Butterfly lantern with a broken mantle. I filled it with glass shards and placed a light behind it.
No lantern was harmed in this experiment. 20230816_134050.jpg

    That looks quite nice :)
Could I ask where they come from?
    What are they used for?
    Thanks

The glass shards were from a tempered glass shower panel which exploded in my hands for no reason while carrying it. I ended up with a badly cut ear and minor cuts on my arms.
I needed to get something positive from it so haven't thrown the glass in the recycling bin yet.

Oh hell, I’m sorry to hear that :/ hope you have a good recovery :thumbup:
It reminds me of crushed ice and also type of lamp from the 60’s/70’s called a Shattaline which was resin based

It's an interesting effect for sure! Sorry to hear about the accident, I've had a beer glass do exactly the same thing to me. I took it out of the dishwasher and it shattered in mid air for no reason!

Is the Butterfly lantern going to be fixed up or is it too far gone do you think? I've had some cheap Chinese Pmax clones like that and I never know what to do with them. I've seen them painted camo green which looks ok but the hood is always the problem as it can't be painted.

I've had good results painting de-rusted steel hoods with Simoniz 800 degree Celsius rated VHT Silver.

Interesting experiment. Sorry to about the accident. Hope recovery is smooth.
Simoniz VHT spray paints are available in the local ACE Hardware in my location.
The only available colours are Black, Silver, Red and Blue. The Silver and Black ones have 800°C stated on the labels. I think the red and blue ones are lower, maybe 500°C? Can't remember.

Thank you . The lantern is in a working condition except for the mantle.
It's not in the best cosmetic condition.
