Hi folks - let me just say I'm new here. I'd be grateful for help in obtaining the enamelled flue/gallery for an outdoor Tilley Suspension lamp - or, almost as useful a photo and some dimentions. Thank you. Another question, in the reservoir/font of this lamp there was something metallic ratteling about. CURIOUSLY ENOUGH, in an IL33, which I also own, there was the same thing. I removed it, and it looked like a piece of lead, or tinman's solder about the size of a "fruit salad chew" (remember those?) Is this usual, and if so, what is the function of it? Is this what you are looking for? [From: Tilley OL50] It may be very difficult to find, but try The Base Camp (UK); or you could make one starting with an EX100 hood. Edit: The rattling object could be solder or some other lost thing, but it does not have a purpose. Cheers Tony
They are rare but do turn up occasionally. It took me several years to find a flue for mine but it was worth the wait/hunt! Alec.
Thanks, Alec. I was given a handy hint to acquire an AL8/9 hood and modify it. A rather sad specimin which will not mind being re-vamped is on its way as we speak. I appreciate your comments though.
I made this for an outdoor lamp. It is an original tilley ex100 hood on the bottom with the curved part removed. The tube is an exhaust part I bought off ebay. I gently hammered the tube into the hood to make it.
Hi Paul, thanks for your thoughts. I will be doing something similar. Since topping up with fuel, fixing an annoying fault in the nrv, and pumping up fully this old lamp is a real stonker!! This original mantle I put in helped I'm sure. Photos to follow.

No worries mate and those lamps are splendid additions to your collection and the IL-33 is the older of those two lamps, it's pre 1940 and it should have an XN., control cock and the link below shows information about Tilley control cocks, the earliest that the other lamp can be is 1940. 8 Tilley control cocks
I have had a go at getting a flue made for my lamp, and wanted to share the photos. I followed the advice of several members, and here is the result; not perfect, I'll admit, but a long way towards what I want.
Not surprised that you look so happy @ancientlights, great work. What did you paint your chimney with?
I used a stove paint. It is used for wood-burners and the like. It is the semi gloss version, through not very glossy. It does burnish up a bit though. You can put lots of coats on too, and it dries in 10 minutes, ideal for an impetuous fellow like me. It requires firing, when it smokes a bit, and I put it on another lamp outdoors for an hour to do this. Very pleasing. The light, is if anything, even better. More updraft I suppose. It's made me really happy! Dinner parties will never be the same again!
