Can someone please enlighten me... why on earth would mine or anyone else's phone replace the word 'mantles' with mant look es? That makes no sense at all!

I was wondering what that meant, I thought maybe a local word, as you guys have some weird sayings. Or you were excited.

Mate …….. what an awesome table lamp. It looks so elegant.
I wonder if my Dad had something similar just after the war. Unfortunately Dad past away 6 months ago aged 94, so I can’t ask him. However the family home still exists within my family and is located in South Australia. I’m planning to do a family visit in the next month, so I’ll be asking the questions and looking through the odd/old stuff stored.
    Cheers
    Pete

Lots of light and plenty of heat too. I must say it looks perfect on the dining table!

I will spruce it up a bit, the only question is how much? I can't leave the fount as it is with a lump of solder so I'll have to choose a reasonable colour. Cream or gold would be more authentic (the base is gold) but I'm also considering dark green or maybe burgundy - not sure which yet. Any thoughts? I'll probably just polish the 'bull horns' and lacquer them.

That style of founts looks great in cream and a brass rim tops it off in my opinion. Whatever that's worth.

It's update time again! I took this fettle slow as I wanted to do a good job. I agonised over the colour for weeks before making a decision but opted for cream and brass as it was one of the standard finishes Tilley used. As my oven is currently kaput it took much longer to dry each coat before applying the next but it was worth it I reckon. The 'bull horns' were polished and lacquered as was the column and the rim. I'm happy with end result.

A very nice find and truly elegant lamp, @ColinG
Couldn't agree more on the colour choice. You've got it all, both a great showpiece and a working lamp.
