So I decided to bite the bullet and go with the asian after market Tilley vaporizer, and a very handsome piece of kit it is too. Though not cheap. When I assembled it and tried it before even putting it in the lamp this happened.... I could actually feel the wire kinking. It came with a spare pricker but I didnt want to use it in case the jet was at fault.....( a burr left over from manufacture, dirt in the jet etc.). Got in touch with the guy and he sent me 2 prickers and a spare jet, great stuff. My question is, on closer examination I noticed the wire is a simple press fit ...... Any one know what size this wire is and where on earth can he be resourced.... I've tried a .007"/.17mm guitar string which is too big. Sourcing this would save me a 6 week wait plus e17 postage and custom charges... Has anyone else come up against this sort of thing... Yours in lamping. Paul
Have you measured the wire that came out? I would have expected a 0.17mm wire to be able to go through the jet. A 300cp jet should be 0.2mm. Maybe there is something wrong with the jet. I use acupuncture needles. They can be bought in a variety of sizes and are stainless steel. Just remember that no matter what you use, after clipping them to length you should deburr the end.
See this right here...! This is why this site is so invaluable. Acupuncture needles, brilliant idea . The .17mm guitar string will enter the jet but won't sit in the pricker socket. There is very little in the difference, so I will have to bring it round to my brother who is the proud owner of a micrometer. Then I will search for the right size acupuncture needle. Thanks Nils .
