    I had a great day out at the Ashover FOL yesterday. Met up with some ‘stovies’ and ‘lampies’, spent a lot of time with John @presscall which is always pleasant and informative.

    Camped overnight after a great evening of displays. Here are some pictures

    Though I’ve been going to Newark (lamps and stoves) for umpteen years, it was my first time here …

    I got there on Thursday afternoon and spent the next morning setting up my display for the Friday evening …

    My speculum-plated Guardsman tank was gleaming in the sunshine, so much so that I could see myself in it.

    The Saturday night in particular was magical. ‘Blackpool in miniature’ said the banner on the entrance gate. Look, I live not thirty miles from Blackpool and the Illuminations are fine, but eclipsed by the diverse entertainments and sources of light at Ashover …

    Exhibitors like myself were kept busy answering the visiting public’s questions. Of my collection, it was the carbide lamps that attracted most attention …

    Some fettling too … well, dismantling the Veritas bowl fire I acquired on site to explore what might need fixing - a replacement pricker wire - more of that in a future fettling post.

    Had a great time at ashover nice to see members from this site and many collectors from elsewhere. Praise must go to the organisers who work so hard to make the event possible thanks from us all .

    I know jean been terrible up in scotland i did not know until i saw the news this evening.
    At ashover it was mostly fine very warm at times
