Hello one and all . From my first purchase and up to my latest, I have kept a log book of the source from where the lamp, stove, heater came from. The cost of the item and dates of all fettles and all parts used. I have found it nice to look back on sometimes when checking on a lamp I have not used for some time. This include everything like founts, burners, vapourisers and replacement mantles and type of mantle used . Hope this topic is of some interest to you. Best Regards Nigel.
I use to keep a log book but because of my age (almost 80) and poor eyesite I gave it up… I can’t see what I’m doing anymore. I think this is a splendid idea, keep it up, I wish I had…
Hi George. Thank you for the reply. I understand how things are difficult with poor eyesight. I use to dabble with model steam engines but after detaching my retina and having two strokes made some things a bit more difficult. Take care. Best regards.
Great idea, I did think about it once and now it's to late as I can't remember how much or where they came from.
Yes I should do that for so many of my interests - it always starts well but falls apart sooner or later.. Well done for percevering
Buggerlugs. Ha ha ! its easily done.. yes time moves fast and it is hard to remember all the comings and goings in this wonderful hobby pastime. Good luck.
Fireexit 1. I was lucky that I kept a record from the first two tilleys I started with. As I have added a few more it has not been too bad a job keeping track. My collection is not that large so I suppose it is easier to document as soon as i can. I would imagine it would be more difficult for somebody with a large collection to update things. Thank you for your input on the topic. Cheers for now.
I thought everyone did. Well I do and I find it helps with fuelling, scheduled maintenance and keeping notes on variations and operating, shall we say peculiarities, as is often the case.
Hi Sedgman. Thank you for your reply. Yes you are correct it is good to keep a record as it is nice to look and see what maintenance has been done.
I have an excel file with all my lamps (almost all). In that I list details such as where and when it was acquired and how much. Unfortunately I didn't start at the beginning, so the info is missing for some of the early ones.
Nils. Well done well at least you have a lot of info on a good percentage of your lamps. Thank you. Nigel.
Oh, yes. Purchased when, where, costs and general/specific condition characteristics as found. But specifically a short note style fettle log to capture the applied fixes, my (sometimes incorrect) thought process, what worked and especially what didn’t work out so well so I can look up again what (not) to do.
