1st time posting, I picked this up at a gathering and would like to give it a go. Marked Sievert ... is it missing the burner ? Where would the mantle tie to ? Any info or pics would be appreciated. Bob
Welcome @surffisher60 The valve has a take-off connector for a stove as in this example from a Sievert catalogue from 1964. It’s a propane appliance and the ‘burner’ is what you see in your second photo, so nothing is missing. A string-tie ‘sock’ mantle would tie around the neck of the riser. Something like a Peerless #111 500cp mantle would serve. John
Bob I‘ve no information on the specification for the mantle but assume it’s a ‘soft’ and not a rigid mantle type. Propane, so a certain intensity to the flame would suggest a large, 500cp type as I mentioned above. Peerless 111, Coleman equivalent or a Petromax. Trial and error though. The mantle would be inverted compared to what’s usual, but should inflate just as well as right way up. THIS camping Gaz lamp has a soft mantle and can operate up, down or sideways! Before lighting up (and assuming there’s still propane in the tank) it’s crucial to ensure that valve seals are intact and replaced as necessary. Spares are unlikely to be available, so finding equivalents will be the challenge.
Thanks, I again played with this, I tried a Peerless 500 cp mantle but would either collapse or blow out on light up, I did get it to light by improvising a coat hangers wire bent to 'tent' to keep the mantle upright.
